—Treasure Beyond Measure

Romans 6:1-10

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin -- 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. (NIV84)

Earthly residence is temporary

As a Christian you no longer belong to this world. You live in the world, temporarily, but you are not of the world. You have died to the world, and have been united to Christ Jesus in his death. Baptism is symbolic of this. In baptism you acknowledge your death to the world, you are then "buried" in the earth with Jesus, and then by the power of God, you are raised up from death to a rebirth of your true self with Christ Jesus.

This is not just a bunch of flowery talk. This is real, if in fact you truly do have faith in the willingness of God to receive you in Christ. The world is dying, and everyone in it will be washed away with it. God has provided an escape. But you must truly abandon the world and live for God in Christ.

People that call themselves Christians, and go to church, but live for the pleasures of this world have been deceived. We live not for the pleasures of this world, but for the hope held out to us in the gospel, of the world that we shall receive, if we remain faithful to God while living in the flesh.

Christ's ambassadors

2 Corinthians 5:20

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. (NIV84)

Heavenly citizenship

Philippians 3:20

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, (NIV84)

This ambassador status is not exclusive to Paul. You too are an ambassador representing the "nation" of Heaven. You are stationed where you are as a representative of the Kingdom of Heaven. You are no longer a citizen of any earthly nation. Your citizenship is in heaven! Is this not exactly what Philippians 3:20 says? Yes. This is exactly what it says. Does God really mean that it is true? Yes. I don't know what people are thinking when they read the Bible and say that they believe it's all true, but then they live as though this world is important. If you are truly a born again believer in Jesus Christ then you have died to the world, you have been buried, then you have been born again, but this time you are born a citizen of Heaven. You are reborn as a living child of God Almighty; brother or sister of the King of kings and the Lord of lords; Wow!

Literal children of God

Is this all true? Yes, my brothers and sisters. If you believe it is true, then live like you believe it, for the proof of what you truly believe is displayed through what you do. If you truly understand and believe that God has reborn you into his Kingdom of Heaven, and has appointed you as an ambassador, representing your home world, then you will act in such a way as to properly represent your Master.

The duties of an ambassador

How does an ambassador act. As an ambassador you must conduct yourself in a way that reveals to the people of the world how things are done in your home country. You must also act in such a way that your King is happy with the way that you represent him, that is, you correctly represent your King to the people of this world.

If you refuse to conduct yourself in the proper manner then you may find that your ambassador status has been stripped from you, and your citizenship has been revoked. If you are found to be faithless then the righteousness that you had received by faith will not exist for you.

Now it is important to understand that the level of conduct to which you are held to is not measured by the law of the nation that you find yourself in, but to that of your home nation. You may find yourself in a nation that honors the legal contract that you sign, but not your spoken word. As an ambassador of Heaven your spoken word caries the full weight of any signed contract, so you live here with that in mind. You don't back out of an agreement by using a legal loophole. Such a thing is disgusting to your King.

Perhaps in the nation that you are in it is entirely acceptable to engage in lewd and promiscuous behavior, provided that you go to the proper place for such things. Again, as a representative of Heaven it is not fitting for you to go to such places; you do not belong there.

An ambassador does not interfere with the host government

Now I ask you, what does an ambassador have to do with the inner workings of a foreign government? Does an ambassador have any say in what laws are passed? Is an ambassador part of the government of the nation in which he or she finds himself or herself. No. An ambassador has no say in the running of the government in which they find themselves.

Heaven's ambassadors

God has not left us, his ambassadors, here to fix the world. The world cannot be fixed. The world is going the way that God has determined that it would. If you forsake your duties, as Heaven's ambassador, and involve yourself in trying to fix this world, then you are showing that you have more faith in the world than in God. If you think that making things better here is your assignment then you do not truly understand what your duties are.

Revelation 22:11

Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy." (NIV84)

Banner of Christ

This idea of people gathering together under the banner of Christ and protesting, whatever, is wrong. As ambassadors you are not to pass judgment on the people of the world, rather you are to represent your home nation, and to make arrangements for the "immigration" of others. You are to act as the liaison for the people of earth in matters of God. We as Christians are priests more than anything else.

Revelation 1:5-6

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father -- to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (NIV84)

A priest is a person that acts as a go-between between man and God. The duty of a priest during the Church Age is to inform man of what God has done in Christ regarding the restoration of the personal relationship between God and man. Please understand that if you are truly a Christian then you are a priest and an ambassador. There is only One that is between God and us Christians and that is our High Priest -- Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 9:11

When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. (NIV84)

Christ's Ambassadors do not get entangled in worldly affairs

As an ambassador here we should not involve ourselves in any worldly institution. We are in the world, but not of the world. Do not be concerned with who is elected to any office.

Romans 13:1-2

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. (NIV84)

Have faith in God

Now, if God has established the authority in question, why are you concerned about it. God does not need your help in selecting the governing authorities. Have faith in God. God does know what he is doing, and it has nothing to do with making the earth like Eden. The kingdom of heaven will become the kingdom of earth, but in God's timing and in his way. And that day will not come before everything in this world is laid waste.

Christ's Representative

I have heard people say that we Christians should band together and that we should vote for those that are the most moral, or whatever, but this is not correct. Your faith should be in God. God will do what he will. You are his representative here on the earth, so do your duty and represent.

Romans 12:2

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV84)

You see, people of the world care about worldly things, but you must seek that which is from heaven. You must look to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 7:29-31

What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; 30 those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; 31 those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. (NIV84)

It is not that the world is good or bad, but that it doesn't matter. As an American I hear much about the wonders of Capitalism and the evils of Communism. But as a citizen of Heaven I don't concern myself with either.

If you, my brother or sister, involve yourself in any thing of the world, then you will share in its guilt. If you become entrenched in the world, then you may find that you are consumed in the fires of God's wrath.

Revelation 18:4-5

Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; 5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. (NIV84)

Abhor the world

I who claim to be a Christian, who go to church and profess faith in Jesus Christ, do you want out? Are you at home in the world? Do you love the world and have your faith in it? God is offering to those that will forsake the world a place with him in heaven. But he does require an act of faith on your part. He requires that you show your abhorrence of the world by your rejecting it, and by your embracing the new life that will be yours in Christ for all eternity.

Do not love the world

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. (NIV84)

It's not free

My friends, what God is offering you in Christ is beyond value. I have heard people say that it is free, but this is a lie. You cannot purchase it at any cost, and it is given freely, but it is not free. The cost to you is your life. You must give all that you have to receive what God has wrought in Christ.

Matthew 13:44-46

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. (NIV84)

You must pay what it is worth to you

There is a saying in the world, perhaps you have heard it; "You get what you pay for." This saying does have application concerning you and the kingdom of heaven. If you think that the kingdom of heaven is free, and so you give nothing for it, you will receive nothing. But if you see a jewel of boundless value and give everything that you have for it, then you will receive it.

Mark 4:24-25

"Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you -- and even more. 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him." (NIV84)

This article is a wake-up call. My brothers and sisters, consider who has appointed you ambassador. Consider his holiness. Consider his calling of you. Consider what he expects of you. Consider the consequences of just how you respond.

Ambassador to the world

My brothers and sisters, your appointment as ambassador to the world is as real as any ambassador that has been appointed by earthly governments. The honor is great. The responsibility is great. Much is expected from you. Live up to the calling that you have received.
