Is Jesus The God?

God's Plan

This is the plan of God: To bring forth children for himself that are created in his image and likeness; having freewill; and that they would seek out the God of love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, patience, goodness and self-control; because in their heart of hearts, they want to be like him. Never lose sight of the fact that God can do anything, anything at all. Therefore everything is exactly as God intended.

God Knew Man Would Fall

God knew that if he made children in his image and likeness, having freewill, that they would become proud and think in their hearts, that they didn't need to obey God, that they could be like God. Knowing this, God made a temporary 'Heaven' for his children to live in. A 'Heaven' in which they could live even though they were dead.

The World is a Temporary Heaven

This 'Heaven' of which I speak is of course the Universe and the life and death I speak of is spiritual. Our universe was designed by God to be as boundless as Heaven, having no beginning or end. It is a teaching ground for us and God's holy angels. It is a place where we can learn what it means to be dead, that is, cutoff from the land of the living, (spiritually speaking--Heaven). It is a place where we can taste the fruit of spiritual death and recognize sin for what it is, and repent and come back to God.

Now God has quite intentionally created the universe and placed us inside animal bodies, in a way that makes it completely impossible to find God. What I mean is, if you, using your intellect, carefully examine his creation you will never find conclusive evidence of the existence of God.

God Cannot be Found Through Human Effort

Mankind has pointed their telescopes toward the far reaches of the heavens and they have calculated with their mathematics and have come to the conclusion that the entire physical universe originated from one infinitely small location at one point in time. Whether this is true or not I can't say, but what I can say is that no mathematics or scientific observation can determine where the energy came from. Mathematics and human observation cannot find God.

And look at the efforts of man to find the origin of life. Man has spent countless hours digging up fossils and searching for the Creator, but God cannot be found through human endeavor. How God made the world I cannot say, but God made it in such a way as to make it impossible to find him in it.

I am not saying that you can't see the beauty, and brilliance of God in the creation. What I am saying is that you cannot come to know God, personally, through the creation.

Jesus is the Only Way

John 14:6

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV84)

Jesus Christ is the only way to come to know God; the only way. What about Abraham? Didn't he see God? Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father. What about Adam, or Moses? Didn't they see God? Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father and always has been and always will be; the only way.

Jesus Preexisted Mankind

John 8:57-58

You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"

58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am! (NIV84)

So who is this Jesus who existed before Abraham? THAT is the question.

Know that God can do anything. There is not one thing that is, that came about apart from the will of God. I am not saying that what is, is what God likes or desires. Remember, the world is where we can see the effects of sin, and learn of the goodness of God.

So who is Jesus and why did God choose to reveal himself the way he did?

To See Jesus is to See the Father

John 14:8-9

Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."

9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father'? (NIV84)

Jesus did not "Look" Impressive

People tend to think that Jesus was a man that stood out in a crowd, that he was unusually handsome, eloquent, commanding, and distinctive. I don't think that this is true at all. Look at what the Scriptures say concerning his physical self.

Isaiah 53:2

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. (NIV84)

In the eyes of the world he was a man of no account. Look at this:

Mary and Joseph were Poor

Luke 2:22-24

When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons. (NIV84)

Let us look at what the Law of the Lord says:

Leviticus 12:6-7

When the days of her purification for a son or daughter are over, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a dove for a sin offering. 7 He shall offer them before the LORD to make atonement for her, and then she will be ceremonially clean from her flow of blood. (NIV84)

But Joseph and Mary brought two doves or pigeons. If we read a little further on in Leviticus we see:

Leviticus 12:8

If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. (NIV84)

God chose to manifest himself through a poor couple! They couldn't afford a lamb, so they brought two birds. This is very important and significant. Like the Scripture above says; there was nothing about his incarnation that would have anyone take notice of him. He never went to Bible college, and had no certification or ordination. He wasn't wealthy. He wasn't handsome. He was born, evidently, in some kind of barn, for they wrapped him in cloths and laid him in an animal food trough. How much more unimpressive could God have manifested himself?

God can do anything. He could have come in power and great splendor, but he didn't.

Jesus was the Very Nature of God Before He Came to Earth

Let us look at Jesus:

Philippians 2:5-7

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (NIV84)

Jesus Emptied Himself

This Scripture tells us that Jesus, who is in fact Most Beautiful, emptied himself of his former power and glory, and became, as we have previously discussed, a totally unimpressive person--outwardly.

Here is Jesus praying on the night of his betrayal: And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. John 17:5 (NIV84)

So we see that Jesus was glorious, but made himself nothing; was in very nature God, but humbled himself and became a man. What do we see when we look at the man, Jesus Christ? We see what God, himself, would look like if he were a human like us. We see an example of what we should be like.

But, is Jesus Christ in fact God? Let us look deeper into the Scriptures and see.

1 Corinthians 13:8-12

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. 12 Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. (NIV84)

This scripture speaks of the glory that awaits us in Heaven. When we leave these flesh and blood bodies, and receive from God spiritual bodies, we will be completely changed. To know of things as God now knows us.

Jesus is God in Human Form

When we look at Jesus in the Gospels we see him not as the all knowing, all seeing, spirit body indwelling God, but we see God the person, inside a normal human body. We see him as limited in his spiritual vision as any other Christian. Jesus had to pray and seek God's will, just like we must. Jesus had to resist sin, just like we must. Jesus was subjected to temptation just like we are. But Jesus was fully obedient to the Father.

Now I said that God the Person lived inside the body of Jesus, what I mean is that God's soul and Jesus' soul are one in the same. How this can be I can't say. Let us look at some scriptures: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15 (NIV84) For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,... Colossians 2:9 (NIV84) The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 1:3 (NIV84)

We see from these Scriptures that to look at Jesus is to see God. I don't mean Jesus' body, but his actions and his words. When you look at me, you don't see me, but my body. To see me you have to look at what I do and say. This is what the Lord means when he says that a tree is known by its fruit. Anyway, when we look at what Jesus did and listen to what he said, we are really watching and hearing God.

Christ, Who is God Overall

Paul, speaking of the Israelites said: Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen. Romans 9:5 (NIV84)

And Jesus, himself, spoke these words concerning himself: They will dash you (Jerusalem) to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you. Luke 19:44 (NIV84)

Jesus is Jehovah

"But", I can hear you ask, "how could Jesus be God and the Father be God? How can Jesus be seen on earth, and yet pray to the Father in Heaven, and they be the same person? My answer is that I don't know, but God can do anything. It is important when studying the Scriptures to find what agrees with all the Scriptures. I know it's a mystery, but Jesus being the physical manifestation of Jehovah is the only thing that agrees with all the Scriptures.

Jehovah is King

Look at this:

The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. Psalm 10:16 (NIV84)

The word 'Lord' here is God's divine name YHWH or Jehovah.

Look at what God said when the children of Israel asked him for a king, through the prophet Samuel. And the LORD told him: Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. (God the Father) Samuel 8:7 (NIV84)

So we see that the Scriptures say that God is the King of Israel.

Jesus is King

Now look at this:

Matthew 27:11

Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"

"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied (NIV84)

How could Jesus claim to be the King of Israel, if the Bible says that Jehovah is the King of Israel for ever and ever, unless Jesus is Jehovah manifested in human form?

The Child Given (Jesus) Will be Called "Everlasting Father"

Let us look at another Scripture:

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NIV84)

Could this be any more clear?

Let us not forget this Scripture as well: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" -- which means, "God with us. Matthew 1:23 (NIV84) (also Isaiah 7:4)

My brothers and sisters, we should not have any problem accepting that Jesus is Jehovah. The Scriptures are quite clear about this. So what if we don't know how it could be true. I don't know how God does anything--do you? So don't be confused with how God could still be God in heaven and also manifest himself on the earth as a man. Just look at the Scriptures and believe that God is able to do whatever he says.

Why Should We Care Who Jesus Ultimately Is?

Why is it important to accept that Jesus and Jehovah are one-in-the-same? I personally don't think a person can understand just how deeply God loves us until they fully accept that he was willing to humble himself, and become an ordinary man, and be a servant to all, and willingly and knowingly be spat upon, slapped, struck, insulted, degraded, flogged and crucified, to save us from certain destruction. Think about this. God, did this for you, because of his great love for you.

Humble Yourself; Like God Did

If God did this for you, what should your attitude toward him be? And what do you think God will do with a person who treats this act of love and mercy with contempt?

We have seen that the Scriptures show us that Jesus is Jehovah manifested in human form. We have seen that God chose to reveal himself in the world completely devoid of anything that a worldly person would find attractive. Why do you suppose this is?

God chose to reveal himself the way he did because he wanted to. He did so because he determined to bring about the end that he desired. If God wanted children that acknowledged him because they were afraid of him, or came to him because they were afraid of the Lake of Fire, or whatever fear prompted motive, he could have come in power. But this is not what God wanted. God can do anything, so what is, is what he wanted, and what is, is because it will bring about what he wills.

God Revealed Himself in Christ the Way that He Wanted Too

This is what the Lord says:

Jeremiah 9:23-24

This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches,

24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. (NIV84)

Jesus is What God Really Looks Like

God has revealed his true nature in Jesus Christ. God revealed in Jesus what he truly values. The power and glory and majesty and honor and status are not important to him. He has all these things, but so what. He is good and kind and loving and gentle and just.

To Love God is to Love What He Really Is

Oh my brothers and sisters think about this. God is calling you to forsake the world and what it values and be like him. Seek him. Who cares how smart you are, or how respected you are, or how feared you are or how much junk you have or how pretty/handsome your spouse is. Do you think God cares? Do you think God is impressed? Don't think that because God is gentle and kind and patient with you that he doesn't care what you do. In his love he has told you how you should live your life. He expects you to listen to him and do as he says.

He has revealed his true self. Do you like what you see? Do you want a God of love over you? Then submit to the Loving One.

What You See in Christ is the Real Deal

God loves those who love him, and the HIM is the kind and gentle person he is, not the glitter and pomp. God is Love. God revealed himself in a way as to attract the 'lovers' to him.

What I am trying to say is that God is who he his, and he revealed himself in the earth to draw to himself those people who are drawn to him; are drawn because they love what they see--Goodness, Justice, Kindness, Love.

The scriptures also say that he has hidden himself, and that is why he came without any pomp or splendor. Jesus Christ has nothing that we should esteem, unless of course we truly esteem God.

So, I encourage you, my brothers and sisters, to consider all this. Think about what all this means. Pray and ask God to fully reveal himself to you. Obey God. Seek God. Love God. For God truly loves you.

In his love he has set limits for you, because he knows what is good for you. Respect him and fully obey his limits, understanding that obeying God is good for us and in the end makes us more like him.

Any parent wants only good for their children, but a parent can't make their children obey them. The child must trust that the parent loves them and has set rules of conduct for them, because the parent truly knows what is best for them.

Oh that I might fully obey God!
