Bless The Lord

Oh Gracious Father God may my soul bless Thee
not in part but with all You have placed within me
Father God You are a full-time giver of blessings
rather I am a part-timer with my transgressing

It is not You my God who is the ever-changing
no not You but I in need of severe rearranging
No I dare not speak of deeds I do that are good
for I have tares and weeds more than I should

Oh Merciful Father here am I prostrate and bare
under the eye of my Great God seeing me there
I the greatest of sinners no longer condemned
tempted by strong signs of whence sin stemmed

Cleanse me my Father from the dirt of this earth
I need Heaven's help to return to days of rebirth
Though I may try my best to keep my soul clean
I alone am no match for sin's zest as You've seen

This soiled soul is indeed ready for my Redeemer
evil has toiled steadily and I need You my Cleaner
Sin is the burglar who sneaks in during my nights
to maim and murder all my soul knows to be right

May I a chief of sinners come to bless You the most
in no mischief of sin but cleansed by The Holy Ghost
Oh God give me a clean heart not in part but whole
forgiven I mean to bless Thee in my heart and soul
