"When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy."

Exceeding Great Joy

Denis Brent Rees

Great star bright star held high up in the sky
shepherds nearby and magi from afar to go by
The bright eastern star led them to The Baby Boy
that they might feast their eyes and gaze in joy

No palace no trumpets to herald The Christ's birth
just Herod set to imperil Thy Son's arrival on earth
Some thought it odd the way His life would begin
God's Son could not come like this said men of sin

Now like then The Light brings sinners unto You
when we see things in Your way as You want us to
Though not in the sky we can be a light on the hill
and so by Thy might do Thy Son's work by Thy will

Father may we seek You with exceeding great joy
not merely meekly reading of The Sweet Baby Boy
For anyone can read of Christ and know He was real
we need to be ones who will show His Love with zeal

There was no room in an inn for Your Son to be born
so unfair for The One who came for sinners forlorn
How much space have we in the inns of our hearts
has the power of sin smudged some of their parts

One season each year we mount Christ on a display
counting it not treason if other times lives go astray
Lord we can be Your light Father we can be Your star
for in Christ we have right to shine anywhere we are

In The Name of Christ Jesus

Amen!
