Government and the Children of God

My brothers and sisters in the Lord, everything is about God. There is nothing that is not about God, and there never was anything that was not about God, and there never will be anything that is not about God. Keep this understanding always at the forefront of your heart and mind.

The world is running headlong into Judgment at an ever-increasing speed in total rebellion. It has been on this accelerating path of destruction for, perhaps, two hundred years or so; maybe longer, such things are difficult for all, but God to see.

Isaiah 13:9
See, the day of the Lord is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. (NIV84)

As human beings, we are not animals. Oh, we live in animal bodies, for the present, but we are actually spirit beings that were created in the very image and likeness of God. We are like God on the inside, in our spiritual souls.

Genesis 2:7
…the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground [this is the natural part] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being [this is the spiritual part]. (NIV84) (annotations mine)

Our natural bodies are destined to perish, and they will return to the earth from where they came, but it is our created, spiritual soul that hangs in the balance between life and death. Everything in the Bible is about saving your soul, if saving your soul is possible.

You can drive an automobile without knowing how to make one or how they actually work. The majority of drivers do precisely that. A husband and wife come together and intentionally bring forth a child into the world, but they don’t know how the soul of the child comes into being, and they don’t really have to know how. The creation of souls is a mystery hidden within God. Science has some understanding concerning the biology of reproduction of the body, but it is entirely in the dark concerning the origin of the soul. No one, except for God, actually knows what life is. The origin of spiritual life and the origin of eternal energy are mysteries hidden in God.

For the obedient and faithful child of God, everything is about God.

Acts 17:28
‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ (NIV84)

This is true for the prophet of God, and it true for the criminal on death row. The very energy that came out of God and powers the universe and is formed into our bodies is still in him. In the most real sense, everything in the natural universe is in God, and is of God, and is actually for God. It is not possible to separate the Creator from his creation, for they are one and the same.

1 Corinthians 7:29–31
What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; 30 those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; 31 those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. (NIV84)

Paul is telling those who will listen that we are not to live for the world but for God. These are not just high sounding words, but they make up a vital understanding the children of God must follow. The people of the world are endlessly striving after what they want, but there is only one thing that matters here.

Luke 10:38–42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (NIV84)

My brothers and sisters, stop concerning yourselves with the goings-on of the world. Remember what Lot was going through just before judgment fell upon Sodom (2 Peter 2:6–8). The people of the world are like the people of Sodom and Gomorrah in that their faith was in the world, but Lot’s faith was in God, so God saved him from the fiery destruction. We cannot save the world. People whose faith is in the world are constantly looking for perfection in the world, but the ever-increasing sin is relentlessly corrupting the world to its ultimate destruction.

The Nature of God

The nature of God is eternal. Separated from God, not a single being would or could remain eternal. Upon separation from God, Lucifer (shining one, light-bringer) became Satan (the Devil, adversary, slanderer, AKA: the father of lies), and his days are numbered. People tend to ignore the eternal nature of God and just assume that it is just a characteristic like how the redwood trees grow tall. What they are missing is all of God’s characteristics enable him to live eternally. His goodness makes him eternally healthy, as it were. He has no character flaws. God is perfect.

The Nature of Sin

Every single thing God has ever done was selfless; all of God’s infinite power, all of his infinite understanding, and all of his status was solely directed to the benefit of others without consideration of himself. He is a walking and talking, healing, and sustaining source. God is all about providing the perfect environment for the living to live. Now when you boil everything down to its very essence, sin is revealed as selfishness. Sin is a reality-altering lie that deceives a person into thinking that they are more important, or better, or more deserving than the next person. Sin does not exist in God. God is eternally free from sin because his entire being is devoted in the opposite direction. God is to Selflessness as Satan is to Selfishness. God is the Servant of all of the living, and Satan considers himself to be the deserving master over all beings. Now, don’t become confused with thinking that because God desires our worship of him, that makes HIM the one who considers himself our master. God is our Master, but not in the way one would think. His desire for our worship is not about him, but rather is about us turning away from sin and recognizing God’s goodness and worshiping him for his goodness in thanks for saving us from our own folly. God is the only Sustaining Power that saves everyone from death—everyone who is will be saved, that is. However, on the other hand, Satan’s desire for our worship is all about him and his self-superiority. Satan’s belief in his own self-superiority is the very thing that is destroying both him and those who follow his ways.

So, what we see is the one who doesn’t need others to worship him is genuinely worthy of worship, and the one who needs others to worship him is not worthy of worship. Things in the Bible can be subtle. Anyone who criticizes God doesn’t understand things as they really are. Through this misunderstanding, they project their own self onto God, and by doing so, they end up hating him who they do not really understand. However, the person who hates their own wretchedness sees God as the beauty that he is.

The Origin of Sin

How did Lucifer become Satan? How did the light go out for the light-bringer? In Ezekiel 28:12, we see that Lucifer was “the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.” And then, in verse 17, we see what caused his fall; “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.” Lucifer went from perfection to pride driven self-centeredness. However, there is something else Satan did that ensured his eternal death, and that was he broke his faith in God through believing in himself over God.

Isaiah 14:12–14
How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! [Lucifer] You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” (NIV84) (emphasis mine)

The best analogy I know that describes the effect of sin is one where sin is like an addiction to the most potent phycological drug in the universe. One hit of sin and an angel becomes addicted for life or, more accurately, unto death. This is the way it works for the angels in heaven, but not necessarily for us. The angels have no filter. When they sinned, the rush of self was so intense that they became instantly addicted with no possibility of a cure. In a way, we can say they became spiritually insane, and being insane, they no longer have the reasoning power to understand their way out of the addiction.

The Temporary Reality

The fallen angels lived in heaven and could, therefore, see God face to face, as it were. They could see themselves without restraint, so when they saw their beauty and wisdom, it was such a blinding vision that they were forever corrupted by what they saw. Using the addiction to drugs analogy, we can say they experienced such a rush of pleasure that was perhaps a million times more intense than anything we could experience here on earth. Such a life-altering orgasm of SELF that the mere thought of turning back became ludicrous.

One of the most obvious characteristics of living in the natural universe is that we cannot see God, and neither can we see our own spiritual nature that was created in the image and likeness of God. The result of our almost legally blind spiritual vision is that we experience a million-fold reduction of the effect of Sin, resulting in the fact that we are not immediately overwhelmed to the point of insanity, that is, we, to some degree, still retain our ability to reason. This is of critical importance and is a primary reason why God created the natural universe for us to live in temporally. Here we can see the effect of sin and hear God’s explanation of our existence through the Holy Scriptures, and then we can see the need to remain in God forever.

The True Nature of Man

Man is a multi-layered being. The lowest, or most primitive, is what is commonly called his lizard brain. This part of the brain handles most of the autonomic functions, including the fight or flight response. Basically, I am talking about those parts of the brain that happen, more or less, automatically; without thought. I am not a brain scientist, so I don’t really know the correct terminologies regarding the various brain functions, but I think that it is likely you can understand what I am saying.

Above the basic functions, we have the emotions. Emotions can and are conducive to our interactions as human people, but I don’t think it is wise to make meaningful life-critical decisions based on emotional reasoning. The emotions can easily be manipulated by others, but they make up a large part of who we are as we relate to other people. Think of a rioting mob; they are so caught up with the mob mentality that they don’t see (with their reason) that what they are doing is wrong; that innocent people are being destroyed by their actions. They rush about like the unreasoning mob that they are. Right or wrong, they are being driven by their emotions.

On top of our emotions, we have our reasoning brain. It is with this ability to reason that makes us so different than any of the other animals on the planet. It is our reasoning ability that allows us to see the mysteries of the universe and gain understanding in mathematics. This is a critical part of what we are concerning our relationship with our Creator. Because we can reason, we can see the world, hear what God says about sin and death, and then turn from selfishness to selflessness in obedience to God. It is because I can still reason that I can see what God means when he reveals things about sin and death, hot to conform to his ways by way of obedience, and how that leads to life.

The previously discussed layers of the human mind are all shared in common with all higher-level animals. With animals, emotions are far more controlling than they are with a mentally healthy human. All of the higher animals can reason and learn, but at a much lesser degree than people can.

The highest level or layer of man’s mind is a part that man does not share with any of the other animals. We have a spiritual mind that the Bible calls the heart. This, even though it is invisible to science, being spirit and not from the natural universe, is the dominant part of our being. It is from this soul that we have a self-aware consciousness. This soul is looking out of your eyes and sees the world. This soul is the part of us that is like God. When the Bible says that God made man in his image and in His likeness, it is talking about the spirit part of man.

Genesis 2:7 (repeated)
…the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground [this is the natural part] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being [this is the spiritual part]. (NIV84) (annotations mine)

Death in the Garden of Eden

Genesis 2:15–17
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” (NIV84)

Man surely did die when they disobeyed God and ate from the forbidden tree. The death that man underwent was the separation of man’s soul from God because of man’s act of faithlessness towards God. Let us look at this in human terms. Imagine a virgin man and a virgin woman marry and begin to raise a family. Then, down the road a bit, either the man or the woman commits an act of adultery that becomes known. The bond of absolute faith that they had in one another is now broken. This broken faith between the married couple is similar to what transpired within the Garden of Eden. When man took the fruit that God had said not to eat, he stepped out of believing wholly in God and turned to believing in himself. Man committed a faithless act by taking the fruit, the committing spiritual adultery against God. Also, there is another aspect to the spiritual adultery that man committed against God, and that is man became infected with a deadly spiritual disease called Sin.

At the time that man contracted the deadly spiritual sin disease, there was no cure. It was 100% fatal. At that time, even God could not cure the disease. It is the same fatal disease that one-third of the angels contracted, and they were all pronounced spiritually dead. (As a side note: Satan intentionally spread his “infection” to man in the hope of preventing God from destroying him in Judgment. This is why Satan is called the accuser of the brethren. In a way, Satan is saying to God that God can’t judge him without judging man because God is just).

So, why is man spiritually dead? He is dead because he is no longer united with the eternal God. Why did this sin result in separation from the eternal God? God cannot allow any sin in himself. We could say that sin is 100% fatal even for God, except that God cannot sin nor allow any sin in himself, so we really can’t say that sin is fatal for God. I hope that you can see what I am saying. God had to destroy the sin in man before he could reunify himself with man. And that is what he did in Christ on the cross and through the resurrection.

Now, remember that sin is a progressing mental (spiritual) disease for man. You might not be able to see this truth, but God can. God knows that given enough time, sin will utterly consume the rationality of its host. Eventually, the host will become 100% criminally insane given enough time. Sin is like the spiritual form of rabies. Would you really marry a person with 100% deadly rabies and then share a bed with them, and plan a life with them? I think not. And neither will God. God is eternal, and as such, enough time will pass for sin to take over completely. For example, Satan started out perfect in beauty (spiritual), and now he has become the Terrible Monster. If you were silly enough, or rather foolish enough, to unite yourself willingly with Satan, he would eventually eat your brain as you sleep and then walk away without a thought giggling his manic monster laugh 😉. Eventually, Satan and every other sin infected soul will be utterly consumed by sin.

Mankind spiritually died in the Garden of Eden, but because of man being hidden in an animal body and not being able to see his true nature very clearly, he has retained his reason enough to listen to God and to consider his words. This is very important, and as I said before, this is the primary reason for our being hidden in animal bodies in a natural reality.

What we see next in the Biblical story is that God told Satan, the man, and the woman what their actions would bring them, but he also put a little piece of hope into his words. God told them that a seed of the woman would eventually come and crush Satan’s power, and because Adam was a very highly developed spiritual person, he correctly saw the meaning of it all. The Bible then says…

Genesis 3:20
Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living. (NIV84)

Now, my dear reader, I don’t want to insult you, but you really must know that Adam understood the meaning of what God was saying far better than what is commonly believed. People tend to think of Adam and Eve as being like adult new-born humans, but we can see this is not true by reading his reaction to God’s words. The above words are not talking about Eve giving birth to living human babies; no, Adam understood that the Savior would eventually be born through the woman and would save them from the spiritual death they had brought upon themselves. This point is a little subtle, but I hope you can see it now that I have pointed it out to you.

Genesis 2:7 (repeated once again)
…the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground [this is the part that still can die] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being [and this is the part that the Savior would save]. (NIV84) (annotations mine)

It was understood by God before he created man that if he made beings in his own image and likeness, that they would immediately become proud and sin. So, God created an artificial reality, which we call the universe, for man to live in, whereby man could sin and die spiritually, but still remain alive enough to understand the reasons for his death. Man could still retain enough reasoning power to understand his need to return to God through the Savior Jesus Christ. All of this is the reason for the Bible, that is, God’s Word. Without the Bible we would not be able to see and understand God’s plan.

Moses said to us…

Deuteronomy 30:11–20
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. (NIV84) (emphasis mine)

God, in a much more subtle manner, give this same choice to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and they chose to believe God, and so their faith in God’s promise became righteousness for them. They were no longer under the sentence of death because of their sin. They knew God would send a Savior, born of a woman, to save them from spiritual separation from God.

You, Today, My Reader

Everything I have written is the back-story that you must know and understand else you will remain in a state of spiritual separation from God and eventually be cast metaphorically into the Eternal Lake of Burning Fire after you die, which is unrestrained Sin. If you die in your fallen state, then you will no longer have any buffer between yourself and the power of Sin. That Sin will completely overwhelm your reason, and you will become clinically criminally insane with not enough reason left for you to change your corrupted mind. Grim, yes, but it doesn’t have to be grim for you. You can, with the reason that you still have, listen to God and choose a different path for yourself that God has made possible for you through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, His Son.

The world today is accelerating towards Judgment, that is, the End Time events that Isaiah is referring to in this repeated passage.

Isaiah 13:9
See, the day of the Lord is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. (NIV84)

The law-abiding people today, and most of those who call themselves believers, are worrying about the wrong things. The world is going insane, but what is that to you? These are not events that were unexpected by God. There are NO unexpected events to God. He sees the beginning from the end, and the end from the beginning. How he can do this, I have no idea, but it is true nonetheless.

People, put your faith in God and not in government. Winston Churchill once said…

“Many forms of government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.”

But, I believe he missed a valuable point here. The world does what the world does, and we are in the world, but not of the world. We, who believe, will not share the ultimate fate of the world IF we remove our faith from believing in the world and place it where it belongs, that is, in God alone.

I want to share another passage with you, but it will require some opening up your heart to hear what it is really telling us.

Romans 13:1
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (NIV84)

You might want to read the entire passage, Romans 13:1-7.

You, law-abiding people, are putting your faith in one form of government over another, not realizing that your faith must be in God alone. God puts whatever government over each people according that what the people as a whole deserve. If the people have rejected a true faith in God, then God puts a harsh government over them. If the people have sincerely and obediently put their faith in God, then God will put a light government over them. The world, and especially the west, has been falling away from God for the past two hundred years, and now God is in the process of taking away the people’s freedom because the peoples have been using their freedom to indulge themselves in worldly sin.

God has given his people freedom. In fact, true freedom only exists in God. Outside of God, there is only slavery to sin in varying degrees. Some two thousand years ago, the children of Israel rejected God’s Christ, and so God removed their freedom and gave them over as slaves to the people of the world. Now, I don’t want you to misunderstand my words here, so I’ll say them clearly so that you can understand what I am saying. The Jews, all of the Israelites, are God’s chosen people and must be regarded as such by any wise person. If anyone mistreats any Israelite, for any reason, they will have to answer to God personally; I shudder at that thought. To mistreat the Jews is to spit in the face of God, or try to. God will not like it, and it is very unwise to antagonize the Judge before he passes sentence on you. Only a fool would do such a thing. Be wise.

I mentioned what I did about the Jews being cast out of their land into slavery and abuse only as a warning to everyone alive today. If God did that to his chosen people because they sinned, why would you think that he will not do it to you?

Romans 11:19–21
You will say then, “Branches were broken off [the Israelites] so that I [the modern believer—Church] could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches [the Israelites], he will not spare you either. (NIV84) (annotations and emphasis mine)

Today, in the world, God is revealing to his children the reality of the world and its corrupt peoples and governments. Wake up and listen to God’s warning. If you do not separate yourself from the world, you will be caught up in its judgment. You don’t want that to happen.

Revelation 18:4–5
Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
“Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; 5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. (NIV84)

You can pray for God to bless America, but do not think that America has God’s unconditional blessing. If the people reject faith in God, God will reject the nation, like he will reject any rebellious peoples or individuals.

Today, in the world, I see nothing but lies and emotional manipulation. Don’t listen to the lies, and don’t allow yourself to be drawn into their foolishness through the manipulation of your emotions. Open your eyes and look around and see what sin is doing. Use your reason to seek God, the only One that can save you from the 100% fatal spiritual disease called sin.

God has been holding back the full force of sin in the hope that people will use reason and abandon sin and give themselves wholeheartedly over to Him. But, as we approach the time of the End, He will release his hold on Sin’s effects and allow sin to run wild. The world, as we know it, will soon be destroyed by the very sin that the sinners love so much.
