The Womb of God

The physical Universe is a temporary reality that God created to be a sort of womb, in which God’s children are somewhat protected from sin so that they can develop and come to know about sin and its devastating power and also about the nature of good. God’s plan is that his children can, in a somewhat protected state, learn about good and evil, and then with that knowledge make an informed decision for good. The physical Universe isolates the developing children from the full effect of sin so that sin’s effect can be experienced and then hopefully rejected. Within the womb, the children can taste both life and death and then choose life.

Deuteronomy 30:19–20
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. (NIV84)

The most important thing that we must learn about while we live out our natural physical lives is about life and death, which are connected to good and evil. “God is our life,” the above passage says. Please think about that statement, God is our life. People today, in this totally wicked society, give God only the most rudimentary consideration, and yet God is our life. If you will just stop a moment and really and truly consider the statement that God is our life you will then be able to see just how wicked our society truly is. God created the physical universe and people in it for one exact and specific reason, and people just aren’t getting it. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard some reference about how smart and knowledgeable we are today contrasted with how ignorant and superstitious people were in the past. Ha! What a joke! People today don’t know diddly squat about what is truly important. Sure, people in the past had all kinds of wrong ideas about God and the Bible and such, but today people discard all aspects of spirituality. As the old saying goes, they threw the baby out with the bathwater. Rather than really and truly examining the Scriptures, they discard it all as superstition.
Apart from God, there is only death. God is our life and apart from him, there is only death. This passage, like most Bible passages, speaks of spiritual truths with spiritual words. The life and death spoken of here are a spiritual life and a spiritual death, which in other words, is union with God, and separation from God, respectively. Our knowledgeable scientists today can’t examine anything spiritual because all things spiritual must be spiritually discerned. Scientists today confuse spiritual words for emotions and explain them away with chemical analysis, but that is only ignorant reasoning of what they have no clue about. Spiritual love is not an emotion, and neither is faith or hope. God is not an emotion, he is the enduring reality.
God is eternal life and the spiritually living live in God. We can think of Heaven as a universe of its own. Heaven is the eternal spiritual reality of divine Love. It is not made out of energy and atoms and such. It is not subject to time and so is eternal in nature. You can think of Heaven as an alternate universe if you like, one in which God is its source. Bluntly we can summarize things in this way: the universe is made out of energy and Heaven is made out of God. There is, however, a third reality. The third reality is made out of spirit like Heaven but does not exist in God. Strictly speaking, the third reality was not created by God, it is rather a place of anti-God. The physical universe is made out of matter and we can contrast that with an imaginary universe made out of antimatter. Heaven is made out of God and the third reality is made out of anti-God. Matter and antimatter cannot exist together and neither can God and anti-God.

The Nature of God

God is Love [1 John 4:16] and Love is the nature of God. This Love that God is, is not an emotional love but is rather the kind of person that he is. God is eternal and therefore Love is eternal. Eternal life cannot exist apart from Love, for Love is the eternal sustaining force. Love is the only thing that can exist forever and ever. I am stating a fundamental reality here. It is not possible for anything short of Love to exist eternally. Anything less than Love will degrade and corrupt and consume itself. Love is Eternal Life because it is the sustaining force, and God is Love.
Here is the biblical definition of Love:

1 Corinthians 13:4–8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. (NIV84)

Before you can be birthed into Eternal Life, Love must become your nature too. This definition of Love must be true for you as it is for God. Below is a personalized version of the above Scripture. Read this next section thinking of yourself.

1 Corinthians 13:4–8
I am patient, I am kind. I do not envy, I do not boast, I am not proud. 5 I am not rude, I am not self-seeking, I am not easily angered, I keep no record of wrongs. 6 I do not delight in evil but rejoice with the truth. 7 I always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere.
8 The nature of God in me never fails. (NIV84)

This must be what we truly want for ourselves. We must believe in Love and want to be it. Love is the dream for ourselves. We strive for Love. As we grow and mature in Christ the very nature of God grows in us until we become beacons of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control [Gal 5:22-23]. It is God’s dream that we come to love him. To love God is to worship him. To worship God is to worship Love. To worship the Love that is God we must love the Love that is in us. We must aspire to be children of Love. It is not that we are perfect, but rather that we desire perfection, we yearn for perfection, we want to be children of Love.
God is also Faith and he is Hope as well. Love, Faith, and Hope all work together. It is not possible to separate these three. If you Love God then you, by definition, have Faith in him. You then have Faith in Love. If you, yourself, have become a child of Love, then the Love that is within you believes in that Love, and that belief is called Faith. It is impossible to not have Faith in Love if you are born of Love. God, too, has Faith in Love.
The Love that is within you also holds out Hope. Hope is believing in the Future because of Love. Because we have Faith in Love we know that the future will work out as it should. Love cannot fail and so everything today is fine because we are Children of Love. We are currently on the road of Love and therefore we will arrive where we will. I need not worry over today because I have Hope. I have Hope because I have Faith in Love. If I have Faith in Love then I must have Faith in Hope.
I believe in Love. I believe in God. I empty myself and trust in Love. Love cannot fail. Love and Faith and Hope are all sides of the same person. How can I Love a person and not Hope for them too, but understand that my Hope is not really in them but rather is in Love?

Self: the Anti-God

1 Corinthians 13:4–8
Self is impatient, self is unkind. It does envy, it does boast, it is proud. 5 It is rude, it is self-seeking, it is easily angered, it keeps record of wrongs. 6 Self does delight in evil and does not rejoice with the truth. 7 It never protects, never trusts, never hopes, never perseveres.
8 Self will not succeed. (the Scripture turned backwards-NIV84)

This is the ultimate definition of the philosophy of Self. As the original version of this passage describes the perfect God, this revised version is a perfect description of someone that has been fully given over to Self. I am not being overly dramatic or melodramatic here. This version above perfectly describes the destination of anyone who separates themselves from God. Eternity is a long time and anyone lead by Self and not Sustained by Love will eventually become a monster.
When Self becomes your philosophy it is called Sin. The Bible describes Sin’s effect to be like a fire that consumes its host. Sin is like cancer that does its own thing within the body until the whole body is destroyed. Sin is also like spiritual rabies which attacks the reason and body and is 100 percent fatal.

Pride’s Path

Now, suppose you don’t want to believe in Love. Suppose you want to look out for yourself. You see yourself as the master of your own destiny. What then? If you break Faith with Love then you will be elevated in your own eyes, and not in God’s eyes. This elevation, however, is hollow. You then see what is not really there, you have been deceived by your own foolish desires.
My friend, you can see this every day no matter where you look. It is everywhere. Crude examples of this are seen in people who are acknowledged criminals. These criminals are so deceived that they think that what they do is justified. When they plot to steal and harm, they think that they will gain, but in truth, every step they take brings them deeper down into the pit. But don’t compare yourself with the obvious criminals. You, if you are not on the path of Love, then you too are inching down the deceptive path of ultimate destruction. Life is in the path of Love, and death is in the path of Self, or separation from God. A person can only believe in Love or in Self. Your soul, your spirit self, must either trust in God, that is, in Love, or instead trust in its own ability.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you, working together with other self-centered people, will be safe. There is no safety in numbers. Self is a terminal spiritual disease that eats away at the very core. When you choose to break away from Love then you choose to become a taker. Even if you give your entire life as a servant to the poor, if Love is not the force driving you, then some aspect of Self is, and that self-centeredness will, in the end, destroy you. Perhaps you see yourself as a martyr, and glory in your suffering; if Love is not in you, then it is all meaningless. Perhaps you give up your life to save the environment, and again see yourself as a self-sacrificing martyr, but without Love, you are simply glorying in your own perceived superiority. If you elevate yourself in any way your elevation is false. If you elevate yourself, you will fall because sin will eat away at your foundation until nothing is left. If you empty yourself of all self-importance then God can fill you with himself.
In heaven, when a third of the angels elevated themselves, they all became dependent upon themselves. Each and every one of them said in his heart, I want to be my own master, and so they got exactly what they wanted. They became a community of selfish souls. The selfishness itself is consuming them. They have each become their own worst enemy. The fire of sin consumes its host. Eternity is forever and sin eats away forever and ever until it has eaten everything.
Why do you think God created a world with drugs in it? He did so so that you can understand addiction. When the angels sinned they were so filled with the thrill of Self that they became instantly addicted. They became so full of themselves that they could see nothing else. They GLORIED in themselves. They all became like Adolf Hitler only many, many times more magnified. There was no way to save them and each and every fallen angel is lost forever. They are all clinically insane if you like. That is how things are in Heaven. There is no buffer for pride. Pride can instantly expand to fill the entire being.
So, God created the physical universe. He created the physical universe to be a whole new reality in which self is damped down to a degree that it is almost not even perceivable. We are all so dangerously susceptible to death. We are each literally only one breath away from death. Pride is kept to a manageable level by our baseness. We must each eat and sleep, and we get cold, and can easily be harmed. We must go to the bathroom, and we sweat, and smell, and make humiliating noises and odors. All of this is on purpose. God wants us to remain humble. He wants us to see and understand our vulnerability, and that we are subject to an easy death. He did all of this so that we can see the effect of sin and be very afraid of it.
My friend, if you are not afraid of sin then you are ignorant of its power. The Bible was given to us to teach us of sin’s power, and of God’s solution to the sin problem. The Bible was given to us to make God visible to us and to make sin and its effect understandable to us.
God made a universe where we could be subject to sin and yet still see the value of goodness. We see with the eyes the Hope of a better way of life. Remember, deep inside ourselves we are really spiritual beings, created in the image and likeness of God himself, and so we can see more than the eyes see. We can see with our spiritual eyes the Hope that God has held out for us, the escape from the existence of sin and death. We can also see with our spiritual eyes the revealed spiritual God in the image of Jesus Christ and the Bible. We can look past the obvious and see the possibility, and also see the seeds of destruction all around us. We are spiritual beings, temporally living in a natural world, trying to understand the truth.
Your body is the body of an animal, but inside you are so very much more. It is this inside person that the Bible is speaking to. It is this inside person that exists beyond the life of the body. God is eternal and you are an eternal spirit person too. Eternal life is life with God, eternal death is eternal separation from God. When you depart this world you will be either filled with the spirit of Love or you, too, will be so filled with the addiction of Self that there will be no hope for you. If you will but open your eyes and look around you can see the undesirability of Self’s existence. If you will look intently into the Bible you can see the eternal nature of God, the nature of divine and selfless Love.
