In this post we will be examining the interesting aspect of the Antichrist and Beast-man as two separate persons but also one. This bizarre relationship is in my opinion one of the most interesting puzzles in the Bible.
Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. (NIV)
We have seen this Scripture before but it is important to look at it again. The man called the Beast comes up from the Abyss after the Two Witnesses have preached for three and a half years.
The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. (NIV)
This is the same Beast-man and we see that he is given authority to do his thing for forty-two months which is the same as 3 ½ years and is the same as 1260 days and is the same as a time, times and half a time, which are all ways the Bible uses to refer to either of the halves of the final seven-year period of trials and tribulations. The point I would like you to perceive is that the Beast comes up out of the Abyss and kills the Two Witnesses after they have preached for 3 ½ years and then the Beast has authority for 3 ½ years where he meets his end at the end of the seven year period. Now let us look at the man that I am calling the Antichrist.
“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.
25 “Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (NIV)
After the decree is issued to rebuild the Temple and Jerusalem there will be 49 years and 434 years for a total of 483 years of a 490 year period. That leaves 7 unaccounted for years. Those unaccounted for years are found in the book of Revelation. Looking at this passage we see that a man called here “he” (verse 27) will sign a seven year treaty with the people of Israel. In the middle of the seven, that is, at the 3 ½ year point he commits the “abomination that causes desolation,” that is, he enters the Temple and sets up an image of himself declaring himself to be the Christ. The Beast comes up out of the Abyss 3 ½ years before the end, SO the beast comes onto the scene at the same time as the abomination that causes desolation sign is seen. SO, the man who signed the treaty 3 ½ years before the abomination that causes desolation sign cannot be the Beast-man. The man that signs the treaty is who I call the Antichrist. He is the man that comes to power deceitfully and through intrigue as we have seen in a previous post.
So you might be wondering what happens to the Antichrist man and how is it that the Beast-man comes on the scene and you no longer hear about the Antichrist-man?
And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea.
And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2 The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. 4 Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?” (NIV)
The Beast-man comes up out of the Abyss, but we see here a beast that comes out of the sea. The sea is a cryptogram for the sea of humanity, that is, this beast came from mankind. The beast that has ten horns and seven heads is a symbol of the fourth kingdom, so this is the Beast-kingdom and not the Beast-man. The head of the kingdom-beast that seems to have had a fatal wound is the Antichrist. The Antichrist is in Jerusalem and he receives what appears to be a mortal wound, and he appears to have died, but then, miraculously he comes back to life to the total astonishment of the men of the earth. The men of the earth see the Antichrist enter into the Temple and set up the image of himself, then they see him killed, and then he comes back to life declaring himself to be the Christ—risen from the dead! After he is miraculously brought back to life he kills God’s Two Witnesses and the whole world looks on in astonishment.
The man that enters the Temple is the Antichrist, he is then killed, but it is the Beast that comes up out of the Abyss that enters into the body of the slain Antichrist and the Antichrist becomes the Beast-man and is then given 3 ½ years to attack the saints of God.
There are more Scriptures that show all of this and I will be talking about them in a later post.
This is all very strange but we must always remember that each and every Scripture must be accounted for. We cannot ignore any of them. Whatever the complete story is, it will use all of the Bible’s Scriptures.
